Speed is not all it is made out to be.

The commonly stated straight line speed of a machine can be very misleading. The time a mount or mat cutting machine takes to cut a particular sized mount or mat is not dependent only on the cutting speed of the head, although this is a popular performance figure to give.

Production time is also a function of acceleration, deceleration, blade and head lift and drop times, cutting path efficiency and blade rotation speed. All these factors taken together produce the time it actually takes to cut a mount. In cutting small mounts it can easily be the case that the machine never even reaches the stated top speed if the lengths to be cut do not exceed the distance taken up by the acceleration and deceleration curves.

Cutting out whole sheets to produce quantities of the same mount is also more cost-effective as the amount of loading and unloading time is significantly reduced. Always be sure to check out actual production times when comparing machines and/or methodologies.

Owning a Trucut is a more profitable experience.
